This drive is the last LaCie product I will ever buy. I bought them for my Mac because they are the main brand at Apple stores, but I am finally done with them. They work fine for as long as they work, but the quality is incredibly substandard. I'm pretty tolerant of technology, and recognize that there's the possibility of a lemon with any company or product line. But I've gone through two of these in the last two years. The most recent one, the d2 Quadra, is only about six weeks old. Out of the box, it made an ominous "thunk" noise every time the disk would engage. But in the past week, it's now begin making a low droning noise at all time, which leads me to believe it's not long for this world. I only hope it remains functional long enough to copy my data to a replacement drive.
Do not, and I repeat, do not buy these drives. I never will again. I'm tired of throwing my money down a rat hole.

Solid product, happy with the purchase. The only complaint I have is that it has a tendency to slow down work flow when it is connected. Software takes longer to fire up, commands lag just a bit. I'm using a MacBook pro that is lightning fast to start with, so it's not slowing me down enough that I won't use it. All in all I trust it to back up all of my projects.

I received my 1TB Hard drive last week and I am loving it. I created a partition between Mac and Windows and I am using this with Time Machine on my Mac and Very nice back tool provided by them on Windows. One button push technology is also amazing. This baby is surprisingly silent. I will buy one more in the future.

In less than a month after my purchase I got a shocking notice from my computer that my LaCie External HD on my desktop could not be found. Evidently unknown to me, these drives have a nasty history of power supply failures. I was then sent a replacement with the assurance that it would resolve the problem. Well, now the replacement power supply has failed too. I don't understand why a company like LaCie that's been around for as long as they have can allow a problem like this to continue without providing a reliable, longer lasting, higher quality power supply for it's drive's?
This experience has taught me not to purchase any other products from LaCie! They have a decent product that their to blind to see how providing a better quality power supply is good for business. Unless they can provide a no cost solution to this issue for their customers, I strongly suggest to avoid doing any business with LaCie!
One last thing in conclusion, they provide no extended warranty for their products in Hawaii where I live or Alaska. Why can't they include using FedEx to cover their extended warranty that I wouldn't mind paying for?

This external drive was fine when it worked for the first two years I had it. However, when it failed technicians at La Cie told me to reformat the disk. It was a back-up for my iMac with 40 years of lessons, dozens of movies, thousands of photos, and over 8500 songs for the iPod classic. EVERYTHING was lost and could not be recovered in a data recovery center after they tried for three weeks to help.
I am very dissatisfied with the abysmal customer service and this unreliable French product, but it is the only game in town for a Mac with Time Machine, so I'm stuck buying another.
