So I got this hard drive this morning after reading endless reviews about this product. I read many complaints about the cord being loose and how the Smartware is very annoying so it made me hesitant on buying it. After purchasing the product I first tried putting the micro USB cord in and it locked right in. Doesn't feel loose at all. I then plugged it into my computer (Macbook Pro), reformatted it and I was all done. I did not have to deal with the Smartware. It doesn't even show up on my desktop when I plug it in, just the hard drive. This hard drive works just as good as my other Western Digital portable hard drives. Yes, it does use a micro USB but its not that big of a deal. And a plus was that it was only $119 in store at Walmart. Very good deal for 1TB of memory

I only rated three stars for what I haven't tested this hard drive on: Linux and WD's Customer Support. The only drawback to this external I could find is: it always asks to find drivers to install on Windows XP Pro 64 that aren't needed to access the drive; otherwise, it performs flawlessly.

What is the point of making a hard drive so small but a USB connector that is even smaller and so loose that you can just forget about to move while you're working with it. The cord is so short that you have to put it right where your mouse/keyboard is.
Don't even think about being on the couch comfortably with your laptop and use this hard drive.

It only needs less than a millimeter and your nice little drive is disconnected. Very nice job Western. It's especially nice if you are in the middle of copy or move, it has always been a good thing to disconnect a hard drive then. I cannot believe I bought this piece of technology junk that is a shame for the century we live in. They should all call them back and give their customers the money back and they shouldn't show their face untill this hard drive has a stabile connector.
Because of the loose USB connector I have lost my files while moving them.

El diseño es excelente, capacidad y facilidad de uso. Pero el software es algo complicado, no pude actualizarlo por que requiere una versión especifica de Microsoft Framework, ,lo cual no me dejo actualizarlo, de todas maneras no estoy utilizando su software. No me parec io lo suficientemente practico.
Sin embargo la unidad es excelente.
