Works perfect just plug it in. Though can't figure why they put that crappy software on it though.

Do not buy this external HD if you plan on using it with 10.4 - 10.5 or better is required even though it is not stated anywhere. The software will not work, the drive will not act as an external folder for iPhoto (keeping your library there) and it also would not properly power off/on. It also disappeared and would not reappear from my desktop throughout the process of installing it. Support was not much help either.

I bought the Western Digital Memory 1 TB USB that is completely compatible with my MAC, and I could not be happier. It was plug and play. Literally, that simple. For a person who is not very tech savvy, it was a real relief not to have to "make it" compatible to work.
I recommend it to anybody who has a MAC.
And the price was a real "deal."

I have bought two previous WD My Books External hard drives and am still very happy with them. Yesterday I happily bought my third one and was very let down with their "New Smartware" It's junk. I hate this lame software so much, I am done buying WD! It's a shame I love their hardware, but this new software SO pisses me off!

I purchased one of these hard drives and at first was a little dissapointed with it's looks, the plastic cover looked a little cheap but I guess for 99 buck's that's all you get. Easy hook up just took a minute to do, and at that moment Time Machine took over and did the backup job at first with a few glitches (the back-up was interrupted several times) but I'm guessing something related to my computer going to sleep and interrupting the process, even though I had the disks set to "Never".
It happened several times during the initial (and longest) back-up, afterwards it worked perfectly, so perfectly that I just forgot about it.
Did not install the bundled software as in most of the reviews I read before purchasing one, warned about it's slugish performance and conflicts, so it's up to you to do the test if you still want to try it.
