I probably use this a little differently than most people. I have several computers and a network NAS (Synology DS109) that is used for central storage, so instead of backing up an individual computer, I am backing up my NAS. I had previously been backing up to a USB 2.0 drive that finally died. I didn't want to spend too much but needed 1TB, wanted the eSATA speed, but the option of using USB if eSATA didn't workout (the Synology runs on a Linux kernel and I wasn't sure of compatibility). So this one popped up on Amazon as being the proper capacity, option of eSATA or USB, waranty, really good reviews, and a great price for all that.
So far so good, backed up 250 GB (200,000+ files) from the NAS in about 6 hours. Not as fast as I thought, but I don't use any of the included software and the bottleneck could be on my NAS. It is important to note that backing up a few large several GB files only takes seconds, it is when the system has to enumerate tens of thousands of files that it takes longer so I can back up 12 GB of 3 ISO files in seconds, but 1GB of thousands pdfs or pictures may take 10+ minutes. Like some other reviews, no real heat issues, and actually runs very cool now that the single initial large backup is done. I've had it for almost a month, the NAS backs up to it every 4 hours, never fails, and everything is there.
It came very fast through Amazon (about 2 days on Super Saver shipping) and came with all the needed things. It was supplied with both the USB and the eSATA cable. 5 stars for this one from me.

This e-SATA drive works fast--backing up a 350 GB hard drive in about 90 minutes. It is quiet also. It does need an electrical outlet as it has its own plug. I bought a separate eSATA cable only to discover that this drive already somes with an eSATA cable. The Iomega backup software does not work with Windows 7 64 bit, though I used the backup/image software with Win 7 and that worked fine. Overall, very happy.

I have owned several external hard drives throughout the years from Western Digital and Seagate, and this 2TB Iomega drive blows them all away. It is totally plug and play if you are running Windows 7. No software install required. And if you hook it up using eSATA, it is faster than Firewire - blazing fast. It is funny that the original makers of the Iomega ZIP drive finally got the external hard drive right. This is a no-brainer. If you have a good PC with Windows 7 and you are looking for ultimate storage in an external drive that performs well, is simple to use, and is damn fast, then just buy this.

I have a pretty big store of USB 2.0 drives. I have bought this eSATA drive of 2 TB roomspace so that I don't have to look anywhere else for secure and fast data backup. It is the backup software which remains a strongpoint besides the eSATA factor. I have now registered for a warranty of 3 years.

We use this product in my company to get temporary server backups if our regular backup devices fail. They work fast enough to be functional, and we've never had a failure.
