I bought this hard drive seeing all the good reviews and thinking that i would not be one of the folks who gave this a one star because the device died too soon. Boy was i wrong. It worked fine out of the box but within 2 weeks it stopped working for no reason. Nothing could make it come to life. I needed to go to a computer pro to get my data and erase the drive before sending it back to Amazon (which is great as always with its return policy). The IT guy thought it might be a minor issue but when he opened the box he said the heads were stuck on the disk and prevented it from spinning. This seems to be a serious manufacturing defect. Not sure where to go next as all external hard drives seem to have a certain percent of unhappy users but i clearly will not go back to a Seagate which is a shame because they used to be the top maker of external storage.

Installed easily. Documentation was not very complete. Had to go to the web site to learn what I needed to know. Only had it three weeks but working well so far.

I got the 640GB FreeAgent Go a week ago to work with Time Machine on my MacBook Pro. I wanted to be able to just plug a hard drive in via USB and do a back-up whenever I wanted. So far it works great for that.
Installation was easy. I just plugged it in, and Time Machine asked me if I wanted to use it for Time Machine. I bought the FreeAgent PC version and Time Machine just reformatted it with no problems.
Note that I was thinking about spending extra to get a FireWire drive but I'm glad I didn't as USB 2.0 is plenty fast for my needs. I'm also glad I got a USB-hub-powered hard drive so I don't have to mess with a bunch of cables when I want to back up. Just plug in and it goes.
