I use a whole pile of these drives for my archive system at home. The labeling is great because I can keep them all organized. Plus I've never had one crash on me. Hooray!

We used three of these drives to transfer and store video for use in FinalCutPro. They work great! The Firewire 800 cable is included and it has two ports, so you can loop a number of drives together and transfer file between them.

I use one one these drives as a continuous backup for my mac and my wife's mac using Apple's Time Machine. The price is good, the capacity is very good and the utility that it adds to our home computers is huge.

This drive has been on my wish list for a long time, and I finally got around to purchasing. It's one of the best consumer external drives I've ever used. It comes packaged with all the cables you'll need (a FireWire 800 cable, a standard USB cable, and a FireWire 400 to 800 adapter), a pleasant surprise in a world of external drives where you usually just get a power adapter and maybe a data cable. Upon plugging in the drive, you are presented with a "Virtual CD" that walks you through registering the drive for the standard 3-year warranty. I'd sign up for this, data recovery and some other services are covered if your drive fails. Additionally, Western Digital has an "upgrade" program where you can buy a newer drive of higher capacity at a discount, just by owning the drive you do. The promotion covers drives in and out of warranty, so you can get a discount even if your drive fails past the 3 year warranty coverage.
The drive comes pre-formatted for Macs, and works without a hitch. You can change the label on the front of the drive with the applications provided on the drive, all of which check for updates automatically when the disk is connected to a computer with an internet connection. You won't have to pay attention to software updates, it's entirely automatic. You can also enable a password to protect your data if your drive is stolen, or if someone's just looking where they're not supposed to. For the geeks out there, if you partition your drive, all of the volumes are protected by the password automatically. The "Virtual CD" software partition takes only a few hundred megabytes of space, so with 2 TB you won't feel like the company is stealing your storage space.
This is also one of the quieter drives I've worked with, and I've worked with enough to know when a drive is quiet. My old drive was so loud I could sometimes hear it from the other room. I can barely hear this one when I'm sitting next to it.
If you're looking for a simple backup drive with a lot of storage space and basic security, this is the drive to get.
