I have setup these drives a 1tb raid drive (mirror). I was a little intimidated at first as I'd never used a drive with such capacity or capability. But setup was easy. The WD software doesn't pop-up like it does on a PC (very annoying). Works great with my mac. I'm very satisfied with the purchase.

I use it on RAID 0 and made two partitions, one of them for Time machine. Works perfectly

We used this drive as a drive to save video footage from several smaller drives. In the process of transferring the data to the drive it gave us many differernt error codes. In the process of trobleshooting the drive we called WD tech support and wished the best of luck to resolving the issue. They told us they never experienced the type of problems we had. We are video professionials and my editor knows his craft. The drive is in for data recovery. We may have lost 300g of footage.

I have it set to Raid 1. So far so good! I haven't had any problems so far, though it's only been one month. I plan on buying the same WD hard drive and setting that one to Raid 0. I'm using the first drive for storage and backup, and the second hard drive for editing.

I thought getting an external hard drive with the RAID-1 feature (internal backup on 2 separate hard disks) could better protect my data. I just bought this WD "My Book Studio 11" 4 TB drive last month and loaded all of my data into it in RAID-1 mode. It ran fine for a week and then failed -- and not just one of the hard drives, but the unit itself refused to power up. Even the power light won't come on, so I have no access to any of my data despite using the RAID-1 backup feature.
Ironically, I've used three other Western Digital hard drives for over 5 years without a single failure. Then I get their "safer" RAID-1 system and look what happens ...
