My wife and I purchased this external hard drive specifically to use with our Apple TV. The pre-installed "Smartware" software interferes with Apple TV recognizing the hard drive. We consulted WD's website for disabling the software, to find out that there is currently no way to delete the software from the hard drive. There is an option for turning off the smartware but this does NOT fix the compatibility problem. We've researched the problem for hours and have yet found a solution to the problem. Save yourself the headache and purchase a different external hard disk that doesn't come pre-loaded with software.

I AM PLEASED WITH THE UNIT,,ALL MY DRIVES ARE WESTERN DIGITAL ,, AND HAVE STAYED WITH THIS PRODUCT ALL ALONG. I USE IT WITH A SWITCH PANEL,,,AND CAN TURN ON OR OFF ANY OF MY HARD DRIVES AS NEEDED. LOVE THE SPACE AVAIL ON THE DRIVE..COULD USE MORE.
